The lot features an original Indian wool trade blanket with beaded blanket strip from Montana Crow Indian, Tyler Medicine Horse. Blanket strips are decorative beaded bands that are sewn onto blankets, which are worn horizontally and wrapped around the body. This strip illustrates a classic design that appears throughout Plains communities’ blanket strips during the Reservation Period. Originally stitched onto buffalo robes as decoration, blanket strips continue to serve as individual adornment and embellish an outer layer of clothing worn during special occasions, and can be sewn onto trade blankets and handmade. This stunning red and navy blanket is adorned with a floral designed seed bead blanket strip in the middle, jingles and white leather thong fringe strips throughout with red and blue trade beads, navy blue and red edge trim seams opposite each other on top and bottom. Perpindicular to the edge trim are alternating colour strips of yellow, red and crimson opposite green, crimson, and navy. The center seed bead panel strip colours include Periwinkle, chalk white, Mint green, iridescent dark green, red, dark red, iridescent red. This medium weight blanket is in good overall condition, no stains or damage noted. No bead loss noted. Measures 60"W x 72"L
