Featured in this lot is this Deer Lodge Prison plait braided bridle, circa 1940's. The bridle shows a four plait with wonderful heart conchos attached to the crown piece and reins featuring a four plait construction. In an attempt to tame the Wild West, a prison was established in Deer Lodge in 1871. Constructed primarily with convict labor, Old Montana Prison was an active prison until 1979, when it was moved to a new site four miles west of town. The condition of this bridle is good, with wear consistent with the age of the bridle. The measurements of this hand braided bridle are 31" x 7" x 7".
