Featured in this lot we have a Mauser model 98 Type B Sporterized bolt action rifle chambered in 8mm (8x57 JS). The model 98 was one of the most popular and sought after of the sporterized rifles and is considered by many as one of the best mausers produced. The Type B was manufactured from 1900 to 1939 with the model 98 still in production to this day. The firearms was manufactured and invented by Paul Mauser in Oberndorf, Germany, with Mauser's bolt action patents still serving as the base platform for many modern rifles. This wonderful rifle features a 22 1/2" long round barrel with a top rib, sporterized hardwood stock, bolt action, Unertl Hawk scope, and double trigger system. This rifle was traded in 1964 for a Victor E. Stachel horse trailer and comes with a collection of papers and ephemera on the rifle and mausers in general. The rifle shows a wonderful hardwood stock with a clear finish and wonderful checkered pattern across the grip and foregrip. The piece incorporates a internal magazine with the bottom plate showing a etched branch design. Mechanically the rifle shows a smooth working action, bright rifling, and crisp double trigger system.
