Featured in this lot is this original, large map of Montana compiled from official records of the General Office and other sources under the direction of Harry King, C.E., Chief of Drafting Division G.L.O, compiled by R.H. Morton and revised and lettered by I.P. Berthrong in 1897. The map was made by the Department of the Interior General Land Office and only features 24 counties, where as of 1925, there are a total of 56 counties in Montana. The map also features six Indian Reservations as well as military reservations. The map has been linen backed and and fixed to a wooden board. A small red plaque has been placed in the bottom right hand corner and is marked with white paint reading, "1897". The map has been colored with various colors such as blue, green and yellow. It shows fair to good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years. Rips and tears are present along the edges and crease lines are present throughout as well. No major signs of damage or large tears is noted. The piece measures 34 1/8" L x 50" W x 3/4" D and weighs 13 pounds and 2 ounces.
