Vintage Authentic Signed "DESNA" Handcrafted "Malachite" Glass Butterfly Vase, ca. 1920. Desna is a brand of art glass made in the Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. Between the world wars, the glass industry in Czechoslovakia flourished. One of the types of glass developed there in those years was a slag-type opaque green colored ware now commonly called "Malachite" or "Jade", "Green Agate" or "green slag", most pieces were in the Art Deco style. It was during the sixteenth century that the Jizera Mountains became the place in which glass production was successfully developed. Its major growth took place during the nineteenth century, when one of the important production centres emerged in the area around the present-day town of Desná, Czech Republic. Desna art glass molds were introduced in the 1920s, around the same time that Rene Lalique began producing his collection of art glass molds. The vase is in good overall condition, with no marring, chipping or scratches noted, measures 3.75"H x 2.5"W around the middle, 1.25" top with a .75" mouth x 1.5" base
