For your consideration is this rare "The Discovery of Yellowstone Park 1870" by Nathaniel Pitt Langford and is a Second Edition approved by The National Park Service, J.E. Haynes publisher (the official photographer and concessionaire of Yellowstone National Park), 1923. The book tells the story of the Washburn Expedition in 1870 and features many illustrations, photos, and maps. The book was written by Langford who was the diarist for the expedition and the first superintendent of Yellowstone. The findings of the 1870 Washburn expedition, of which Langford was a member, gave credence to the findings of the Folsom party of 1869 and resulted in the sending of a government survey party into the area in 1871. The culminating effect of the three expeditions was the federal legislation creating our first and largest national park and marking the beginning of the national concern for the preservation of America's heritage of wilderness beauty. Nathaniel Pitt Langford (1832-1911) was an American explorer, businessman, bureaucrat, vigilante and historian from Saint Paul, Minnesota who played an important role in the early years of the Montana gold fields, territorial government and the creation of Yellowstone National Park. The condition of this book shows it's well preserved with some wear to the spine and outside cover of the book. Measures 5"W x 6.875"L x .75"D, weight is 12oz.*
