For your consideration is this framed photo by Dr. Steven Amstrup from 1989. Steven Amstrup is chief scientist for Polar Bears International. He also is an adjunct professor at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. He earned a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Washington (1972), a M.S. in Wildlife Management from the University of Idaho (1975), and a Ph.D. in Wildlife Management from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (1995). Prior to joining PBI, he led polar bear ecology research in Alaska for 30 years. Regarded as the most influential scientist working on conservation efforts for the iconic bears and determined to create a better future for them, Amstrup and his team of international researchers provided the data needed to list the animals as a threatened species. The photo depicts three polar bears, a mother and two cubs, laying down on an ice platform waiting for their next meal to swim by. The photo was taken by Steven Amstrup on an expedition to gather data on whether or not the polar bears should be listed as a threatened species due to the melting of the ice caps. The photo is set behind glass and sits in a a metal frame being single matted. The photo is signed in the lower left corner reading, "Steve Amstrup" in metallic ink. The photo measures 15 1/4" L x 19 3/8" W, while the entire piece measures 21 1/4" L x 25 1/4" W.
