Featured in this lot is a dug up "Bullseye" canteen - Cedar Creek Battlefield artifact circa 1860s. The canteen features a a "bullseye" design dug up from the Cedar Creek Battlefield also called the battle of Belle Grove and shows, originally, round canteen design with a topper on the top. The Battle of Cedar Creek, or Battle of Belle Grove, was fought on October 19, 1864, during the American Civil War. The fighting took place in the Shenandoah Valley of Northern Virginia, near Cedar Creek, Middletown, and the Valley Pike. The condition of this canteen relic is poor as it is a dug up artifact and is in three different pieces with heavy oxidation. The measurements of this canteen pieces are 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" x 2 1/4" and 4 1/8" x 6 1/2" x 2" and 6" x 5 1/2" x 2". The collective weight of this canteen is 8oz. This canteen is from The Erik L. Dorr Collection and comes complete with a Certificate of Authenticity.*
