Featured in this lot is an E Allen & Co. single shot vest pocket derringer chambered in .22 caliber. The pistol was manufactured from 1869 to 1871. The derringer features a nickel'd barrel and chamber, brass frame, and walnut grips. The barrel is marked across the top with "E. Allen & Co Makers". The brass frame displays a deep unpolished patina, with the barrel showing much of its original nickel finish. This distinctive and iconic derringer pistol measures only 3 3/4" long overall. The piece displays a working hammer with the trigger sticking a little. This style of derringer was an iconic personal defense weapon of the early post-Civil War years and found favor with well-heeled gentlemen, gamblers, ladies of society, as well as ladies of the evening, lawmen, and outlaws alike. The derringer shows good condition overall, with some wear and patina due to age. Serial Number: 21857. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
