Featured in this lot are two General George Armstrong Custer books from 1913. The first book in this lot is a 15th impression copy of, "On The Plains With Custer" by Edwin L. Sabin, published and copy-righted by J. B. Lippincott Company in 1913. This historical western was written before Custer was known as General, a time when those who knew and marched with Custer were still alive. Edwin L. Sabin tells the story of a man who was as great in peace as in war from the perspective of Ned Fletcher, a bugler who served under the general. From the westward expansion of Northern Pacific Railway, to Custer's encounters with Sitting Bull and the famous Battle of the Little Bighorn, this account of Custer's adventures is told in an engaging manner and is based upon extensive research. Sabin muses on what really happened at the Battle of Little Bighorn and weaves us a tale that seamlessly combines entertaining storytelling with factual accuracy. The book has a dust cover with the title in beige lettering with an illustration of Custer saving a young boy from a charging bison. The original hardcover is green with black embossed lettering for the title. The book is in good condition with wear to the dust jacket and original hardcover. The interior pages are in good condition with no signs of tears or foxing present. The book measures 8" L x 5 1/2" W x 1 7/8" D. The second book in this lot is a 1913 edition of, "Boots and Saddles" by Elizabeth B. Custer, published by Harper & Row and copy-righted by Elizabeth B. Custer. A counterpoint to the purely military memoir, her account provides details about everyday garrison life at Fort Abraham Lincoln, including sketches of townspeople, Indians, camp followers, and soldiers, as well as daily routines, and special amusements. The Custers lived in the Dakotas when it was still the "Wild West" and western legends such as Buffalo Bill and Rain in the Face also stride through the pages of this book. The book features a dust jacket with the title, author and publishers in black lettering with an image of Custers last stand at the Battle of The Little Big Horn. The original cloth hardcover is a beige color and features a small symbol of a torch in the bottom right with the numbers "1817". The book shows good condition overall with some wear to the dust jacket from its age. The interior pages are in good condition as well with some pencil markings in the front page but no signs of tears or foxing present. The book measures 7 5/8" L x 5 1/4" W x 1" D.
