Featured in this lot is this framed photogravure called "Medicine Bags - Piegan" by Edward Sherriff Curtis born 1868 and died 1952 and created from the original photograph in 1911. The photogravure artwork shows a Piegan grouping of four medicine bags slung on a standing frame. The photogravure artwork reads as follows: From Copyright Photograph 1911 by E. S. Edward Sherriff Curtis was an American photographer and ethnologist whose work focused on the American West and on Native American people. The condition of this photogravure is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall display condition. The measurements of this framed photogravure artwork are 14 3/4" x 11 3/4" and the visible artwork measures 9" x 6 1/2". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Identification#: E1097.
