This is a nice Indian Reservation era circa early 1900’s and on pipe tomahawk attributed to the Chippewa Native American Indians of Wisconsin. The piece exhibits an iron head with long slender blade, with other examples of a similar nature being documented with the Chippewa of Wisconsin and Minnesota, possibly from reservation or Indian blacksmiths locally. The head is long and slender with filed chevrons or “V”’s on both sides and has a short pipe bowl with two bottom rings on a short base. The head is secured to the haft with remnants of old leather gasket and brass tacks. The haft handle appears to be comprised of hardwood and shows old brass tacks and some minor wear. Provenance: From the ex-Tom Hardy collection of Indianapolis, IN. The head measures 7 ½ inches long by 2 ½ inches wide across the bottom edge of the blade, overall measures 17 inches in length.
