The lot features three early-1900 Sioux Shield, Medicine Club Stick and Club Head miniature toys / trade items from the ex-C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls, Montana and John Kleinschmidt / O’Dell collections. Three Sioux miniature / child’s toy / sampler pieces including: an Indian tanned parfleche rawhide shield with red ocher / ochre mineral pigment painted being sinew sewn to a bent wood hoop with Indian tanned hide tie at the top also painted red; next is the “Medicine Man” dance want club showing a wire body wrapped trade clothe or strung and further wrapped in Indian tanned hide which is thread sewn with a crazy beaded design showing old glass trade seed petit beads, top shows a hoop pattern; lastly is the stone club head showing a full-groove, the stone has a pitted pattern and is a unique honey comb color and look. Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection and O’Dell collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit. Catherine A. O'Dell. There are two attached museum tags that each read, "1396-87 O'Dell". Shield measures 5-inches tall by 3.5-inches wide. Club measures 5.5-inches long by 1.25-inches wide.
