For your consideration is this early 1900s, L. E. Oates slick fork saddle. The term “slick fork” classifies a fork that is widest at the bottom where the fork connects to the bars. It can be any “width” within that limit with narrower forks being called “slicker” than wider ones. They can also come in different stock thicknesses. The saddle features a wonderfully and professionally crafted high back saddle that features an A-Fork tree with slick swells and really fine tooling to the leather of the saddle. The saddle features a leather horn and fork with a high back seat and leather conchos set on the fork, jockey and front jockey. The fenders are hand tooled with intricate floral like designs and set with Belvin Buckles and wood and leather stirrups. Below the leather horn is the maker's mark stamped in the leather reading, "L. E. Oates Maker". The underside of the saddle is lined with fluffy fleece or wool. Overall the saddle shows good condition for its vintage age with wear from use and no signs of obvious damage. The saddle measures 25" L x 20" W x 39" H.*
