The lot features an early Indian Reservation Sioux painted and bone tip arrow with sinew sewing circa early-to-mid 1900’s from the ex-C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls, Montana and John Kleinschmidt / O’Dell collections. The arrow exhibits an early stripped solid wood arrow shaft with expertly carved nock showing an inset carved buffalo bone arrowhead point secured with sinew sewn wrappings that are painted red. The entire shaft is painted yellow and the nock end painted red. The feather fletching is in classic early form and secured with sinew sewn wrappings that are also painted red. The paints appear to be mineral pigment ocher / ochre. Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection and O’Dell collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit. Catherine A. O'Dell. An attached museum tag reads, "1396-87 O'Dell". Same collection as the arrows that sold in the January 2025 C.M. Russell auction by NAAC for $2,048 (shown w/ bp). The arrow measures overall 26.25-inches long, arrowhead by itself protrudes 2 7/8-inches long by 5/8 wide. These were on display at the C.M. Russell museum. A copy of the C.M. Russell Museum paperwork can be available at request.
