The lot features a fully beaded Indian hide wrapped puberty / game ball from the Lakota Sioux from the early 1900’s. The ball is identical to the example listed as “Sioux Puberty / Game Ball circa 1870” from Cisco’s gallery for $1,500. The ball offered here shows early glass trade seed beads over Indian tanned hide. The colors are greasy yellow, red white hearts, cobalt, medium green, greasy white, and light blue. The ball shows geometric stepped symbols as well as an animal symbol, likely a turtle on one end. Puberty balls were typically highly beaded and used for a girls puberty rite, with early examples such as this being immensely rare. Measures 2.75-inch diameter.
