For your consideration is this early 19th century bronze Tibetan monastery bell. Buddhist bells known as tsurigane (hanging bells) or great bells are large bells found in Buddhist temples throughout Asia, used to summon the monks to prayer. Smaller bells are also used for other utilitarian purposes such as summoning for a meal. This magnificent medium-scale temple bell is fashioned in old bronze and features a unique "double swing handled" hanger. It is expertly made by hand and has a row of lovely petals adorning its top and caste. The bell also features elephant designs throughout the bottom portion, and four mythical effigies adorning the top section and handle. When rung, it makes a pleasant sound. This bell possesses an original dark old patina which supports and highlights its generations old life. The bell shows good condition for its age with no signs of damage. It measures a diameter of 5 1/4" and 12" tall.
