The lot features an early rare original cast iron electric street lamp with globe originating from circa 1900’s. The lamp is wired for an electric light but has not been tested. The lamp post shows a large pillar style construction with octagonal base having a wonderful round adorned foot. Overall the piece shows a fine Art Nouveau style with floral cast motifs, pillars, and a flowing top. The globe is covered in small groves giving the appearance of flames and is blow with a fantastic curved two-tier design having the original iron finial atop the entire piece. It is very uncommon to see a complete original piece such as this even retaining some of the original paint. The piece could have originally been an Arc Lamp as was common in the early days of Street Lights. The piece is from a large Minnesota collection and is thought to have originated from a prominent Western City in the United States possibly San Francisco, recovered post-earthquake. Tt measures 141" tall by 19" at the widest on the base.
