Extremely early Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with 4” octagon barrel, serial number 19772 indicating a Pre-Civil War manufacture date of 1851! A fine original example .31 caliber, 5-shot revolver that found favor with lawmen and outlaws alike who? carried a small back-up revolver. It also found immediate acceptance by ladies of the evening, gamblers, well-heeled gentlemen, Civil War officers and enlisted men as personal weapons. Many of these also saw service in the gold fields of California. The Model 1849 was one of Colt’s most popular designs that was large enough for aimed fire, yet small enough to conceal in a waistband or unobtrusive holster. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, barrel and cylinder, barrel correctly marked in the early two line style “ADDRESS COL. SAM COLT over NEW-YORK CITY.” along with “COLT’S PATENT” on the left side of the frame. Nice overall aged patina metal with exceptional walnut grips, brass back strap and trigger guard. The upper back strap, butt and trigger guard still retain some original silver plating that is almost never present on this model. The cylinder retains ABOUT ALL OF THE ORIGINAL ROLL ENGRAVED STAGE COACH HOLD-UP SCENE! This is usually worn away on most specimens, especially early examples. The cylinder is also clearly stamped “COLTS PATENT” with matching 19772 serial number. Excellent mechanically. One of the most popular and successful of the Colt percussion revolvers and a key model for any Colt, Civil War or Old West collection. Rarely do such early examples come up for sale. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
