This is a fantastic Eastern Woodlands old trade tacked flintlock percussion conversion muzzleloading black powder rifle from the Cherokee dating to the late-1700’s to early 1800’s. The rifle is a late-1700’s early 1800’s muzzleloading black powder rifle originally flintlock and was converted to percussion in the 1800’s. The rifle shows a half-stock pattern with half octagon and half round barrel. The rifle does not show a maker and appears to be .50 caliber, the original ramrod is still intact and the action appears to function. The entire gun is covered in old trade tacks of various sizes showing banded, round spot, and zig-zag patterns, all of the tacks having a mellow coloring. Early Eastern Woodlands Indian-owned firearms, especially ones that are so artfully adorned with tacking, are rare to come across. Provenance: From the Ted Levy Santa Rosa, California collection of rare Native American weapons. Measures overall 47.5-inches in length.
