For bidding in this lot is an early Monarch branded wall mount, "picture frame" telephone. The phone is crafted of quarter sawn oak, and shows nicely routed edges, and a "picture frame" case. The picture frame style telephones are distinguished by the routed border of the receiver. Additionally, the telephone utilizes all original parts. Monarch Telephone manufacturing Company was established in Chicago in 1901, and was sold to American Electric in 1925, dating this phone to the first quarter of the 20th century. The plaque on the front of the telephone reads "Monarch - Telephone Mfg. Co. - Chicago, U.S.A.". Overall, the telephone shows good condition, the case exhibits some subtle wear to the edges.
