This is an excellent early set of hand crafted cowboy chaps believed to be from Jack Connolly Saddlery, one of three sons of renowned tack maker - John Connolly. The three Connolly sons (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) split with their father in 1907 to relocate to Butte, Montana, which was the start up location of the first Connolly Bros Harness Shop. In 1912, Jack and Pat moved on to Billings, where Jack was credited with expanding the business into saddle manufacture. In the year of the stock market crash, which led to the Great Depression (1929), Jack moved himself to Livingston, Montana, where Jack Connolly Saddlery was formed. Jack Connolly Saddlery (1929-1937; 1940-1946). The set of chaps shows an early 20th century age and are made of rawhide and have sterling conchos with faded brown ties. The belt features brown leather. The belt is stamped "02/29". The chaps are in good overall condition. No makers mark can be discovered, but it is possible that the mark was worn due to the sets use. The chaps are offered from the renowned Bozeman, MT Western collection of Bud Chapman. Bud Chapman, before his passing, claimed these to have been hand crafted by Jack Connolly and sold at his Livingston, Montana Saddlery shop. Bud Chapman was considered the foremost collector of Connolly Bros and Jack Connolly Saddlery. The waist measures 15" and the chaps are 37.5" long.
