The piece shows a stretched and formed piece of rawhide in the shape of a human face, made for ceremonial use as a mask. The piece is said to be from the Plains Native American Indians and shows a polychrome painted design with a white base, red chin and lips with black outlined nose and eyes and a sun like figure on each cheek. The eye brows of the mask are made of some type of natural grass or plant. The mask is stitched with hide and shows a worn patina across the entire piece, indicative of age. The mask measures 5.75" x 8".
