For your bidding consideration is this early Griswold Dutch oven. This piece can be dated to between 1909 and 1920, based on the type of trademark or logo used. In about 1909 Griswold changed their logo from a diamond shaped logo with the word "Erie" imprinted inside, to a cross shaped logo, within a double circle, with the name "Griswold" spanning the horizontal arms. In this first iteration of the iconic cross logo, "Griswold" appeared in a stylized Italic script; in 1920, it would be changed to a heavier block script. The "italicized" logo is referred to by collectors as the "slant logo". Further, the earliest of the slant logo pieces were simply marked "Erie" underneath the Griswold logo; these are known as "slant Erie". Later pieces would be marked "Erie, PA, U.S.A."; these are referred to as "Slant EPU". This Dutch oven on which you are bidding is an earlier "Slant Erie" piece. It is in excellent condition, having no cracks and little rust. Included with the Dutch oven is a Griswold No. 9 Trivet. With some cleaning and conditioning this very collectible Dutch oven will provide years of service. The piece measures 7.25" tall with the lid, by 13" in diameter at the handle tabs on either side.
