The lot features an amazing highly detailed hand carved solid wood American Cigar Store Indian Chief, believed to originate from the mid-to-early 20th Century. The chief is carved from solid wood, and shows exceptional detail, especially in the face, headdress, and accoutrements. The piece was crafted in the likeness of Samuel Robb, or Julius Theodore Melchers carvings. This particular carving shows the traditional cigar bundle in the Chiefs left hand, and a smoking pipe in his right. Due to language barriers, these carvings would be placed in front of a tobacco outlet, to inform patrons that they could purchase tobacco from that particular establishment. The Chief is in good condition overall, it does display some slight cracking, that is indicative of age. The measurements of this cigar store Indian is 59 1/2" x 14" x 12". Very highly detailed and well carved piece showing very good condition.
