Featured in this lot is this Eastern Anatolian tribal Caucus Kilim circa 1930's. The region of Eastern Anatolia borders the Caucasian republics that recently gained independence from the now-defunct Soviet Union; it also abuts Iran, formerly known as Persia. The region has experienced Turkish, Kurdish, Azeri, Armenian, Russian, and Iranian influence, to a greater or lesser degree, some of which is evident in the designs and coloring of weavings made here. The rug features a beautiful intricate design with symmetrical geometric design and naturally dyed colors that shows a bright red field and coloration to the geometric patterns and central medallions such as light brown, cream, salmon pink, light blue, and drab green. The rug features a black border with eight point stars adorning the border of the rug. The one side features a succession of tassels and one side is shown without. The condition of this Kilim is is good with some slight wear to the rug but otherwise in good overall condition. The measurements of this rug are 123" x 41".
