The lot features a set of beaded hide moccasins with parfleche remnant hard soles from the Eastern Sioux Native American Indians dating to circa 1890. The set is comprised of Indian tanned hide with polychrome painted parfleche remnant hard sole bases and whimsical floral beadwork tops all with period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads. The beadwork is done with Cheyenne pink, greasy white, blue, light blue, greasy blue, greasy yellow, semi-transparent red, semi-transparent green and semi-transparent yellow. The inside of the moccasins show the polychrome painted geometric pattern parfleche remnants. The moccasins are sinew sewn and the beadwork is trade thread sewn. The set has a yellow ocher finish and is well preserved with little to no damage, little to no bead loss and present very well. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
