This is an unusual drum style Eastern Sioux Native American Indian parfleche rattle from circa 1890. The piece shows a wonderful buffalo hide parfleche composition with a wrapped wooden handle. The rattle is painted on both sides with organic and mineral pigmented dyes. The handle is marked with a museum inventory number that reads "2103". The Eastern Sioux rattle is in good condition. It measures 5.5" in diameter and is 14" long. This is an exceedingly rare authentic original piece with this possibly being the only known example offered for sale.
