This is a phenomenal, highly embellished sterling silver mounted parade saddle from Edward H. Bohlin (1895-1980) with highly tooled and engraved special finish, both marked on the saddle leather and the silver dating to circa 1930-1950’s. The saddle, the blanket, and the silver are all clearly marked with the correct Edward H. Bohlin marks including, “EDW. H. BOHLIN. INC MARKER HOLLYWOOD, CAL.” (saddle), “BOHLIN MADE CALIF. HOLLYWOOD” (on saddle blanket), and “BOHLIN MADE CALIF. HOLLYWOOD STERLING” (stamped on the front of the horn, that is covered in sterling silver). The saddle has diamond or square like silver conchos that were referred to as “mariposa conchos” by March in Montana when they sold the saddle in 2024. The conchos more closely resemble square conchos from the Legendary Bohlin Lone Ranger Saddle as well as the Bohlin San Gabriel model. The saddle offered in this lot has a rounded skirt lined with a row of large conchos with double spotted conchos in between, with the same border of conchos on the back housing skirt and seat jockey, also shown bordering the fenders with an additional row of spotted conchos on the front, along the stirups and a row bordering the tree all of which is in sterling silver; seat is covered with a fully engraved solid band of sterling silver and the tree shows large sections covering the pommel swells the front and gullet and the horn, all of which are sterling silver and wonderfully engraved. The conchos have a fabulous repoussé or raised floral design and the spots and similar etched floral pattern. The back of the set shows a large sterling name plate which is blank. The entire saddle has a deeply carved and tooled floral pattern. This is truly a highly embellished specialty finished parade saddle / show saddle. The saddle itself is stamped and made by Bohlin as is the saddle blanket and the sterling silver. This is truly a fantastic example of a the golden age of Bohlin saddle making and is well preserved.
