As in his other paintings, it is painted on a masonite board, his colors are vivid and present the serene Montana wilderness in an appealing morning light. The bull elk appears to be 3 years old based on the size of his antler rack; a smaller elk cow is behind him. Scene appears to be during the rut as bulls usually live alone or in a bachelor group.
