Featured in this lot is this embossed tin contemporary Montana Power Gasoline sign. Montana Power Co. inadvertently entered the gas & oil business when it started to produce a significant quantity of oil in its search for natural gas near Cut Bank, Montana. It partnered with Texaco and a group of independents to build the Glacier Refinery in Cut Bank in 1939. Montana Power Co. was then forced to exit the oil business by federal law and sold its interest to Union Oil of California in 1944. The sign shows the word, "Power" in white lettering, surrounded by the state of Montana outline in red with a banner below that reads, “The Gasoline That Has What It Takes” in white lettering. The sign shows good condition with little to no wear present. This is a modern contemporary sign, the measurements are 14"W x 20" L.
