Included in this lot is a fine Pre-War Belgian Browning Auto-5 shotgun in scarce 16 gauge taking the desirable modern 2 ¾” shells. This Browning with serial number 43936 has a 26” barrel that is special factory matted on the top to cut glare. It retains the original ramped bead front sight and retains its attractive blue finish with sharp Browning, gauge and Belgian proof stampings. The blued receiver is embellished with lovely scroll engraving on the sides, top, upper tang, and bottom of the trigger guard. This example exhibits the classic checkered round knob pistol grip used by Browning on their earlier production shotguns. In this classic shotgun, the action is tight, and the bore is mirror bright. Interestingly, author and firearms enthusiast Ernest Hemingway was a big fan of the Browning Auto 5 Shotgun. Most of the production of the Auto-5 was dedicated to the larger 12 gauge with much fewer produced in 16 gauge. These scarce 16-gauge guns, especially those chambered for the 2 ¾” shells, are most in demand and infrequently encountered. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
