Featured in this lot is an engraved Southerner single shot derringer chambered in .41 rim fire, manufactured by Merrimack Arms & Manufacturing Co. This piece features an engraved frame with floral designs, 2 1/2" octagonal barrel, and walnut grips. The pistol is marked "Southerner" across the top of the barrel and across the left of the barrel, reading "Merrimack Arms & MFG. Co. Newbury Port. Mass Patented April 9. 1867." The firearm utilizes a fixed blade front sight, spur trigger, and checkered hammer. To load, the hammer is brought back to half-cock, the barrel release button on the bottom of the frame is pressed, and the barrel will then pivot, exposing the breech for loading a single cartridge. Once loaded, the barrel is swung back into battery, the hammer pulled to full-cock, and the trigger pulled to fire the weapon. The nickel finish on the barrel shows a nice patina. Serial Number: 20. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
