The lot features a fantastic circa 1920 Eskimo (Inuit, Inuk) Native American Indian Seal Skin patchwork sitting pillow. The pillow is constructed of a Leopard Seal skin sewn in a quilt mosaic pattern having four sections of hide being adorned with a sort of Quillwork geometric pattern sewn with natural dyed Walrus Intestine strips. The hide is slightly stiffening with some softness having slight cracking, rips and holes indicative of age which exposes the pillow below. Very unusual piece which displays well and has slight fur loss. Measures overall 15" in diameter by approximately 3" high. Marked on the back with an old piece of tape which is written with ink as the following, "16 in dia. Eskimo CA 1920 - Sitting Pillow Mosaic Seal Hide design decorated with Walrus dyed Intestine Strips." Sealskin / Seal Skin.
