For your consideration is this Eskimo steatite sled dog crew sculpture with a pair of sled dog sculptures. There are two sculptures in this collection, showing a four piece example of steatite sled dogs with two sled dogs conjoined and the musher in his sled with a flat steatite base. The second sculpture shows two sled dogs sitting and waiting patiently to be used; this sculpture is shown on a argillite base. Steatite is known with the popular term “soapstone”, as this stone is much softer than serpentine and easier to carve. Steatite’s color is grey, blue-gray, and white to almost silver. The condition of these steatite sculptures is good, with no obvious signs of damage to either sculpture. The measurements of the steatite Eskimo sled dogs are 4 1/4" x 10" x 3 1/4" and the other steatite sled dogs measure 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 4".
