This is an original Etsitty Tsosie (Navajo / Dine, 1880-1937) Old Pawn silver and turquoise pill box dating to circa 1930’s. The box is signed with Etsitty Tsosie’s documented crossed arrows signature / hallmark on the bottom. Etsitty Tsosie (1880-1937) also called Eskiesosie was a renowned Navajo / Dine silversmith who was active from 1910 until his death in 1937. Etsitty was best known for his beautiful early Navajo stamp work and repousse as well as working for C.G. Wallace and with Hosteen Goodluck. Several of his pieces were featured in the C.G. Wallace collection. Mentioned in the John Adair 1944 book, Eskiesose (C.G. Wallace's spelling) preferred to work without strangers watching him, as he insisted his silver would not melt correctly. The box features wonderful silver work in sterling or coin with hinged lid and the top having classic Navajo stampings and a triangle cut polished cabochon of beautiful rich untreated Turquoise, the base is correctly signed. Measures overall 2” by 1 5/8” by ½”. Total weight of 20.7 grams.
