Offered in this lot are Five (5) assorted East African Raffia Baskets: three (3) round coil bowls / baskets, one (1) woven storage basket with lid and carrying cord, and one (1) coil storage basket with lid and carrying cord. Traditionally used for serving food, these baskets make for amazing wall décor, especially in collections featuring various sizes and patterns. Raffia is a natural material that is perfect for basket making. It comes from the leaves of the raffia palm, soft to the touch, sports a very fine weave, and holds dyes superbly. Weavers construct these baskets by wrapping colorfully dyed palm raffia around a coil of bukedo, the local term in Uganda for banana leaf stalks. The large banana leaf stalks are pulled apart into long, thin strips, then dried, and then bundled into coils and wrapped with raffia. These baskets are in nice condition, with minor scuffing noted. The round baskets measure 9.75" diameter x 3"H, 10.5" diameter x 3"H, 11.25" diameter x 3"H; the woven storage basket is 10.5" diameter x 11.5"H; the coil storage basket is 8.75"L x 6.5"H.
