The piece shows an old trade knife and harness saddle leather sheath that has been adorned by its previous user a Flathead Native American Indian Squaw woman. The piece is thought to be circa early 1900. The knife shows a unique curved blade and is marked PAT PA 7A.. on one side and shows a museum collection tag with ID number. The wood handle is coverd in Indian tanned hide that is adorned with seed beads and glass tube bugle beads. The sheath is also covered in Indian tanned hide with matching beadwork and four faceted glass trade beads. The piece would have been worn around the belt by a Squaw woman or child and used around camp and for self protection. The knife when inserted into the scabbard measures 8 3/4" long, and 1 5/8" wide.
