Featured in this lot we have a painted fossilized Occidentalis bison skull from Montana. This bison Occidentalis was a specie of bison that inhabited North America from 5000 to 10000 years ago. Evidence shows that the Great American Buffalo we know today evolved from the Occidentalis around 5000 years ago. The piece shows the top of the skull with the horn base but is broken at the lower jaw. The skull shows good condition for its age. The top of the skull is painted with bright colors and depicts a Native American hunter with bow drawn looking through tall grass at a large bison. The skull measures 17" long by 15" wide and 8" tall.
