For your consideration are thirteen various catalogs & manuals from the Franklin Automobile Company in Syracuse, New York. From 1902 until 1934, the Franklin Automobile Company was a car manufacturer located in Syracuse, New York. John Wilkinson, an engineer, and Samuel Hill, his brother-in-law, founded the business. The company started out making luxury cars of the highest caliber but gradually switched to making cars that were less expensive. The Franklin Automobile Company was one of the most prosperous producers of air-cooled automobiles and was renowned for its creative engineering. They were among the few businesses that chose air cooling for their engines as opposed to the more typical water cooling. The company's success and stellar reputation were bolstered by the development of a lightweight, efficient, and successful air-cooled engine, which made this innovation possible. The business changed its emphasis to producing aircraft engines for the military during World War I. But following the war, it found it difficult to compete with bigger automakers, and by the 1930s, it was having financial problems. The Franklin Automobile Company came to an end in 1934 when it stopped producing cars. The catalogs and manuals in this lot are as follows: "Tool Equipment List", "Tire Care", "Directions For Using The Alemite Zerk Type Lubricating System", "Instructions For Attaching Weed Chains", "What You Should Know About Your Watson Stabilators", "Franklin Series 11 Care, Operation, Adjustments, Repairs", "Owner's Instruction Book: The Franklin Car Series 9-B", "Franklin Instruction Book One-Thirty", "The Care, Operation, Inspection, & Repair of the Series 10 Franklin Car", "Franklin Owners' Instruction Manual and Parts Price List", "Franklin Owners 1938 Parts Catalog", "Franklin Owners Benefit", and an untitled parts catalog. The pieces in this collection show fair to good condition with wear present to each, especially on the covers. The interior pages show good condition with slight foxing noted but no signs of obvious damage. The pieces measure from 6" L x 4" W to 11" L x 8 1/2" W and have a collective weight of 2 pounds and 8 ounces.
