Frederic Sackrider Remington (October 4, 1861 - December 26, 1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in depictions of the Old American West, specifically concentrating on the last quarter of the 19th century American West and images of cowboys, American Indians, and the U.S. Cavalry. This print shows a group of men riding on horse back performing a a high-speed, tactical U.S. Cavalry maneuver on the Western frontier. It shows three troopers dismounted to fight while a fourth leads their horses to safety, highlighting the chaos, teamwork, and danger of frontier military life. The piece is set in a wood frame and is double matted with beige and brown matting paper. It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted.
