Featured in this lot is a Henry Bonnad Bronze Co. 1895 bronze called "Wicked Pony" from American sculptor Frederic Remington, who was born in 1861 and died in 1909. Frederic Sackrider Remington was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in the genre of Western American Art. His works are known for depicting the Western United States in the last quarter of the 19th century and featuring such images as cowboys, American Indians, and the US Cavalry. "Wicked Pony "shows a cowboy that had been thrown from a rank-tempered bronco. Inspired by a real-life event, this Remington bronze sculpture depicts a fallen rider attempting to wrestle his horse to the ground in a desperate attempt to regain control. Frederic Remington (1861-1909) cast 22 different subjects. The first foundry with which he worked was the Henry-Bonnard Bronze Company in New York. Four different sculptures were cast in bronze, starting in 1895, using the sand-casting method. They were "The Broncho Buster", "The Wounded Bunkie", "The Wicked Pony", and "The Scalp". In 1900, Remington began working exclusively with the Roman Bronze Works in New York. They produced his bronzes using the lost-wax bronze casting process until his death in 1909. The overall condition of this bronze sculpture is good with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this bronze are 20 1/2" x 20" x 8".*
