Featured in this lot is this original watercolor painting, titled "Crater Lake, Oregon" done by Frederick Kubitz in the 1990s. Frederick began drawing and painting as a toddler, and his first evidence of skill occurred at the age of nine, when he won the Chicago Tribune Bird Contest. His father was a professor at the University of Illinois, and his colleagues encouraged Kubitz to pursue a career in architecture. He received his BFA in architecture from the University of Illinois, which required a lot of time in art classes, which Kubitz appreciated. In the early 1990s, architecture projects were in short supply, and Kubitz realized that he had found an audience for his other passion: painting. Since 1990, he has created between 2700 and 2800 paintings. This original watercolor shows a snowy scene at Crater Lake in Oregon during the Winter months. A large mountain can be seen in the background and a dead tree can be seen in the foreground on the left hand side. It is signed in the bottom right hand corner reading, "F. Kubitz ©". It is set in a gold colored frame and is double matted with white matting paper. It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of damage is noted. The visible art measures 10 1/2" L x 14 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 20 5/8" L x 24 5/8" W x 1 5/8" D. It has a total weight of 5 pounds and 2 ounces.
