This is an excellent, hand woven flat weave rug by master weaver Jose Chavez. It was made using 100% soft, fine hand spun yarns in a beautiful Ganado Promontory pattern. The rug was hand woven with a tight weave of 100% hand spun wool yarns, which offers natural variegation and durability with color fast aniline dyes. The tight hand woven weave displays bright, rich tones in the fine Promontory pattern of the time-honored Zapotec, multi-generational craft by a master weaver, Jose Chavez. The rug shows a phenomenal, Navajo-like Ganado pattern, which is of the historic Lorenzo Hubbell Trading Post days of the 1800’s, with modern contemporary detail showing a cream heathered background, large diamond pattern, and crystal lightening medallion with stepped central decoration set to a central red field, black bordering, and cream/white main field. The rug shows a pictorial decoration of a horse and an arrow above and below the medallion and shows bow and arrow pictorials in the corners of the rug. It is finished by the bands of color on each end. The bottom and top ends of the rug are profusely decorated with a tri-braided end weave that finishes into tassels. The piece is brand new, in pristine condition, with a fine, tight weave and is one of the nicest rugs shown in this auction. The rug measures 6.5’ by 10' (6.5 foot by 10 foot). This is a brand-new rug.
