Included in this lot is "George Drouillard, Hunter and Interpreter for Lewis & Clark Expedition and Fur Trader, 1807-1810" by M. O. Skarsten. This book is a first edition and was published in 1964 by The Arthur H. Clark Company in Glendale, California. Although best remembered as a key participant in the Lewis and Clark expedition, Drouillard was a major figure in the early history of the Rocky Mountain fur trade. A partner of Manuel Lisa, he established several forts in the Missouri Basin, trapped with John Colter along the Yellowstone and Big Horn rivers, and was killed by the Blackfeet in 1810. This book is an excellent biography and the only work on Drouillard's life and career. Featured in the book are two folding maps and illustrations with facsimile plates. The book is in good condition, with some wear to the cover. The cover is original red cloth with the spine lettered in gilt. It measures 9 1/2" by 6 1/2".
