This is an astounding an rare circa 1913 silver gelatin original photograph of the grand opening of the Glacier Park Lodge, Montana circa 1913. The photograph shows all the staff, guest and Blackfeet Indian Chief and Tribal members on the front porch of the Glacier National Park Glacier Park Lodge. The Glacier Park Lodge was built in 1913 by the Glacier Park Company, a subsidiary of Great Northern Railway. The photograph shows the four front touring Douglas-Fir beam trees with bark still on and Art Nouveau railing showing five or more Montana Blackfeet at the ends of the stairs and one on the second level at the center. It is possible that if this is indeed a photograph commemorating the opening of the Glacier Park Lodge that Samuel L. Bartlett the American architect was in attendance. Irregardless this was obviously a unique event with such a large crowd and the tribal members in attendance. The photograph is in an antique wood frame which is hand-written in script on the back, “Members of the Blackfeet tribe and guest stand on the Porches of the Glacier Park Lodge, Montana. Possibly taken at it’s grand opening in 1913. Gelatin Silver Print Loose in the matting – unsigned. Image 6 5/8” x 10 ½” Trimmed at on time sides + bottom.” Frame measures 11.25” by 14.25”.
