Presented in this lot a Photographic Collection of Great Plains Indians (4), circa 1880s to 1920s. Collection includes a Fred Rentschler cabinet card of a Native American man sitting in his studio getting photographed. He is wearing traditional clothing and a feather headdress as he smokes a large tobacco pipe. The bottom of the cabinet card reads, "Rentschler / Ann Arbor, Mich.". The second is a A. E. Dumble cabinet card of "White Eagle", Boy Chief", and "Spotted Horse". The bottom of the card reads, "La-Tah-Cots-Tah-Ka White Eagle", "Pe-Risk-Y-La-Sharo Boy Chief", "Us-Sau-Wuk-Y Spotted Horse". The photo of a bison is centred on the bottom. Card is signed, "DUMBLE". Next is a photograph by E. Butler of a man and woman in full Native dress in a canoe on a lake shore. Butler was a photographer active in the early 20th century, known for capturing documentary-style images of the Ojibwe (Chippewa) people in the Great Lakes region. Butler's studio stamp is attached to the reverse. The last photograph shows a native woman and child in native dress on a lake shore, the child is wearing a feather headdress. A teepee can be seen behind them. The photograph is unsigned. The cabinet cards and photographs are in preserved condition, age tanning, foxing, edge scuffing, creases, and tears observed. Largest photograph is framed, frame measures 7.5"W x 9"L, small cabinet card is 4.5"W x 5"L. collective weight is 1lb.
