In this lot is a vintage Gujarati India Pothu/Dowery Bag. The handcrafted bag is from the Kutch region in Gujarat, India. The bag features beautiful mirror work and multi color Kutch embroidery. This embroidery, with its rich designs, has made a notable mark in the Indian embroidery traditions. The embroidery stitches adopted are square chain, double buttonhole, pattern darning, running stitch, satin, and straight stitches. The signature effect of the colorful embroidery sparkles when small mirrors, called abhla, are sewn over the geometrically shaped designs. This bag measures 19" x 15" and has a cord tie and eight scrap fabric tassels along the sides and bottom. This bag is in good condition and has solid construction.
