Featured in this lot we have a Gasser pattern Montenegro Gus Stahl double action revolver chambered in 11.3mm. The Montenegro Gasser revolver was developed in Austria in 1870 with early models showing an open frame design and later shifting to a hinged design. The revolver displays a 9 1/2" long round barrel, fluted six shot cylinder, bone grips, double action, cylinder locks, and self extractor. The piece features etched floral and vine designs across the frame and cylinder. The M1870 Gasser pattern of revolvers were adopted by the Austro-Hungarian military in 1870 and was in service till 1918. In 1910 the King of Montenegro, Nicholas I, required for all male citizens to own at least one Gasser Pattern revolver. The official reason for this was to create a militia to deter attacks from neighboring countries, with many believing the decision more due to Nicholas I owning shares in the manufacturing company. This early production shows bone grips on a broom style handle with double latches on the frame for releasing the cylinder. The piece shows fair mechanical condition with a working double action, with intermittent trigger reset and good cylinder timing. The side of the frame is marked on the left side reading "L GASSER PATENT GUS STAHL" in faded lettering with importing and manufacturing stamps on the right side. The revolver shows good condition across the exterior with an aged patina and light pitting due to age and use. The revolver weighs 3lbs 2oz. Serial Number: 226. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
