For your consideration is this signed limited edition lithograph done by renowned artist Howard Terpning titled, "To Capture Enemy Horses" done in 1997. This limited edition litho is hand signed and numbered by the artist on the print itself and hand numbered on the original Certificate of Authenticity. Terpning first gained attention with his captivating advertising and story illustrations, film fans praised his movie posters for such classics as The Sound of Music, Dr. Zhivago and the re-issue of Gone with the Wind. But his love of the West and Native American traditions saw his transition to fine art. Howard Terpning is one of the most desired, notable and most lauded painters of Western art of the 21st century and is known for his impressive depictions of the Native American Indian culture. His awards are so numerous and he is honored with them so often, that to list them would require changing the count every few months. To name three would be to cite the highest prizes awarded to Western art: countless awards from the Cowboy Artists of America, the Hubbard Art Award for Excellence, the National Academy of Western Art's Prix de West and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Autry National Center. Terpning is also an Emeritus member of the Cowboy Artists of America. "To Capture Enemy Horses" shows a group of young Blackfeet Native American warriors around a fire as they plan to set out a raid on a Crow village with the objective of stealing their horses and returning safely. The group is still far from the Crow village so they are confident that their cook fire will not alert their enemies. The litho shows a gorgeous sunset over the large, rolling plains of the Big Sky Country as the group sits in peace. Terpning's attention to detail is unmatched and it shows in this piece of work. The piece is signed and numbered in the bottom right hand corner reading, "Terpning 856/950". The lithograph shows good condition with no signs of damage or wear present and comes in the original paper sleeve with the Certificate of Authenticity. The piece measures 24" L x 31" W.
